01 · The brief

What we had to get right.

Two years after the Paris launch, bring the Franco-German laureates together at the mid-point of their work: put more than fifty research projects on global change into dialogue, from deep-time climate to adaptation strategies, and open the conference far beyond the room. November 2021: some of the researchers cannot travel. The format will be hybrid.

CNRS and ANR, with the DAAD on the German side.

Our scope

Production and technical direction of the hybrid conference, support for the remote speakers, filming and live broadcast, printed programme and communication materials.

02 · The set-up

What we put in place.

Fit-out and staging of the lecture hall, on the campus
Full hybrid technical direction: three speaking modes: on site, live from a distance and pre-recorded on video
Individual connection tests run with every remote speaker the day before the conference
Presentations collected and formatted in advance, on-screen timer to keep the programme on track
Filming and live broadcast, open to an audience well beyond the room
Live drawn summary, projected after each session
A5 printed programme, communication materials and updates to the programme website

03 · The method

How we ran it.

Stage 1

Framing with CNRS, ANR and the DAAD, building the two-day programme

Stage 2

Listing the remote speakers, connection tests, collecting the presentations

Stage 3

Technical direction across both days, live broadcast and drawn summary

The result

A programme held to the minute despite three simultaneous speaking modes: the researchers who could not travel spoke without the room ever noticing the difference. The live broadcast carried the conference well beyond Strasbourg, and the drawn summary, projected after each session, gave fifty disparate projects a common thread.
